Breakfast bars–they’re not just for breakfast! In fact, these handy spaces are often seen as a bonus when it comes to extra seating. The perfect place for guests to sit and keep the chef company during gatherings and an ideal spot for a casual meal, breakfast bars are a true decorating perk. But how do you punctuate them with style? Perhaps it’s with the perfect set of kitchen stools. Or maybe it involves emulating the look of your favorite restaurant bar!
Metal is sleek. It’s modern. It’s industrial. Let’s face it–metal is timeless! We love the look of the metal kitchen bar below, which is really a contemporary island with a sink. Two black and chrome stools complete the look and tie in this seating area with the rest of the kitchen. We now turn our attention to the light, bright and vivid. Let’s start with the crisp look of the modern bistro kitchen below, complete with a marble island that doubles as a bar. Earthy wooden stools make it clear that this bistro space is definitely of the contemporary variety. Note the industrial pendant lighting that hangs overhead.
A bar-height table work well in combination with bar stools but is not the most comfortable option for a breakfast nook or table. A counter placed at a lower height brings down the eating area to a more comfortable level and can be used in combination with regular dining chairs. Multi-height countertops also bring another idea to the table. They allow the user to physically separate functions. As a result, the dining counters can be differentiated from the prep areas, the cooktops and the baking counter and they can each be designed with the right height for the purpose they serve.
