This is simply amore subtle variation of the classic red-black-white color scheme discussed previously, but the effect is still modern and fresh. Maintaining the white color on the cabinets and walls (the perimeter of the kitchen) and popping in some steel elements in appliances helps to keep the star of the kitchen the coral center island. But a thick white countertop throughout adds cohesion, even to cabinetry that is different. This is a key element – one of simplicity and consistency amidst design variations – of modern style.
We’re starting with the basics. When it comes to kitchens, organization is key. The more clutter on display, the more claustrophobic the space will feel. We know that kitchens are fun to decorate. But resist the temptation to fill the counter tops with purely decorative items. Instead, have your decor pull double duty. Pick a few small containers that you love, and fill them with practical tools and utensils. Or let a modern tea kettle make a statement, as shown in the image below.
The kitchen is an odd room. It’s a space originally designed for cooking but, with time, it has also become a social space where friends and families spend time together, where they chat while someone is making dinner or where they simply gather to socialize. But a kitchen needs to be, first of all, functional. It’s a space where style comes second but, nevertheless, doesn’t have to be ignored. It’s a space where everything has to be perfectly balanced.
